Our Mission
The mission of Family Support Systems’ Foster Care Program is to provide excellent services toward uniting and establishing permanency for families and children in our care. This department will establish the appropriate goal – return to parents, relatives, independent living, adoption and/or residential care. We believe in the quality, dedication and commitment of our staff towards this goal.
We support Family Support Systems’ mission to stabilize and strengthen families and to establish permanency for children. Our families will become more spiritually and mentally strong and capable of handling life’s daily stresses. Ultimately, our children and families will become motivated, strong and economically sound individuals united as one.
Several of Family Support Systems’ departments work closely together to recruit, certify and train individuals to become effective foster parents. The following services fall under the Foster Care umbrella :
Foster Parent Training
We provide a 10-week mandatory training for potential foster parents. State-trained agency personnel facilitate this MAPP/GPS training. It is designed to equip the foster parents with skills and knowledge to enhance their parenting, and moreover, it encourages empathy and understanding of children in foster care. This training also promotes the need for an amiable relationship between the foster parent, foster child and the child’s natural family.
Family Support Systems is committed to ensuring that the needs of our community are met and that the children and families in our care receive the best our efforts and services have to offer.
